EdgeConneX announces new Edge data centre in Santiago, Chile
The SCL01 facility is the Virginia-based company’s 33rd location in its global Edge data centre portfolio and offers international service providers and local businesses with 7MW of capacity. EdgeConneX said it is already planning to build a second SCL02 facility on its Santiago campus.
Oracle and Microsoft both announced cloud regions in Chile late last year, while Huawei announced it was to build its second data centre in the country.
Green Datacenter announces second data centre campus in Zurich
The Swiss data centre company says the new “Zurich Metro Campus” will house three large-scale, high-performance data centres and a business park.
The 500 million Swiss francs ($561.5 million) project will be built in Dielsdorf, approximately 15km (9.3mi) north of Zurich, and will cover more than 46,000 sq m (495,000 sq ft). Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2021, with the first data centre scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2022.
In addition to the new data centres, the campus site will also comprise three office buildings, commercial areas and green zones. Usable commercial and office space will total around 11,000 sq m (118,000 sq ft). Green currently operates five data centres in and around Zurich, totalling more than 14,000 sq m (150,000 sq ft), with three more planned for its Zurich West campus in Lupfig.
Wingu.Africa breaks ground on hyperscale data center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
The pan-African data centre operator aims to establish Ethiopia’s first-ever carrier-neutral hyper-scale data centre park, located in the Ethio ICT Park, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The company is also planning a second facility in Adama City, 60 miles (96km) to the southeast of the capital.
Details of the facility are yet to be shared but it will be located on 161,500 sq ft (15,000 sq m) of land at the ICT Park.
Wingu currently has facilities in Djibouti City, Djibouti, and Nairobi, Kenya. As well as the Ethiopia facilities and expanding its Nairobi location, the company says it has plans for additional data centres in Zambia, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Uganda.
Facebook’s $800m DeKalb data centre close to approval
Facebook’s DeKalb data centre is closer to becoming a reality after concerns from locals have been alleviated.
The 900,000 sq ft (84,300 sqm) data centre will be based on a 505-acre property just south of Route 88 near DeKalb, Illinois.
The $800 million DeKalb data centre will be the social network giant’s 12th facility in the US, with the first two buildings on the campus expected to be completed by 2022, with the possibility for five buildings in total.
