Hollands Kroon grants environmental permit for second Microsoft data centre
Microsoft has received an environmental permit to build its second data centre in Hollands Kroon, Northwest Netherlands.
In addition to the other Microsoft facility, the business park is also home to a Google data centre.
A Cyrus One Data Centre and an unidentified 'Project Luna' data centre are also on the way to the area.
DCI to build new AU$400 million data centre in Sydney
DCI Data Centers has announced its plan to build a third data centre in Australia, with the new 36MW facility to be located in Eastern Creek, 35 kilometres west of the Sydney CBD.
The AU$400 million (US$307m) facility, named SYD02, is a purpose-built project specifically designed for hyperscale cloud, content, and managed service providers.
It is scheduled to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2022.
INAP Corporation announces second expansion of Los Angeles data centre
INAP Corporation has announced a second expansion to its main Los Angeles data centre that will add 1.8MW to the facility’s power capacity.
Phase one of the expansion added 12,000 square feet and a 2.5 MW transformer to the 101,000 sq ft (9,400 sqm) to its flagship facility in Redondo Beach, California. When the second phase is complete, total power capacity will rise from 1.4MW to 3.2MW.
Microsoft gains site approval for third building at Osmium site
Microsoft has gained planning approval for a third building at its Osmium data center in Des Moines, Iowa.
West Des Moines’ City Council and Plan and Zoning Commission gave permission for the 241,000 sq ft (22,400 sq m) facility in December. It is the third of five planned at the site located to the south of West Des Moines. City officials say construction on the new building at the Osmium site is expected to begin by the spring of this year.
The total investment made by Microsoft for the project is expected to be between $1.5 and $2 billion.
Microsoft is currently constructing two more centres in the Des Moines area. Both will be around 1.8 million sq ft (167,000 sq m) in size and require about $1 billion in investment. City officials have said they expect construction on the new facilities to begin in Fall 2021 and completed in 2022.
